This Rolex was introduced at the end of the 1960s and was the first Submariner to feature a date function. Early editions like this one, with red 'Submariner' text, are among the most desirable vintage sports watches.
About this model
Selected by Amsterdam Vintage Watches
''The prices of Red 1680's increased heavily but gradually over the years which makes it very sought-after in the world of Rolex collectors. Prices doubled over the last five years and never went down since its introduction in the end of the '60s. The Red Submariner is a good example and reflection of the Vintage Rolex market which turned out to be way steadier than the modern market.''

1969 SUBMARINER 1680 'RED' - METERS FIRST
Year
1969
This watch was introduced in the very year the 1680 was revealed, which makes it one of the oldest Submariner 1680's.
What makes it special
It's all in the details.
Meters first? An important detail that can't be overlooked. In the early years of production, most of the customers were European, so they used to put 'meters' before 'feet' on the dial. When Rolex saw that more and more orders came from the US, they changed it the other way around. 'Meters first' makes it even more valuable. Additionally, ref. 1680 Submariners between 1969 and 1973 feature dials with red printed 'Submariner' text on the lower half of the dial.
